For more than twenty years, Dr. Madhavan has passionately led numerous community outreach programs, impacting countless lives with care and compassion. Through heart health awareness campaigns, free screenings, and educational initiatives, we aim to empower individuals and communities, fostering healthier hearts and brighter futures with love and support.
For over two decades, Dr. Mathavan has been a dedicated advocate for preventive cardiology, saving countless lives through his efforts. In 2003, he founded the Active Heart Foundation in Madurai, marking the beginning of his impactful work in this field. Dr. Mathavan’s initiatives have significantly improved the heart health of thousands in Madurai. As a relentless champion for heart health, he remains committed to creating a healthier world. Dr. Mathavan’s dedication and accomplishments are a true testament to the power of preventive cardiology, making him a remarkable inspiration.
Dr. Mathavan worked with Dr. Bernard Lown, a renowned Boston-based cardiologist and Nobel laureate, on a study examining the health of 1,500 physicians. The MAPCHES study revealed that 70% of these physicians had metabolic syndrome, a collection of risk factors that heighten the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. The findings were presented at the World Congress of Cardiology in Buenos Aires in 2008 and published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology in 2009. Dr. Mathavan is now engaged in the Ladanendal Heart Study, which investigates the health of 1,000 people from rural areas.
Donated AED machines to Madurai Railway Junction and trained railway staff on their use. The training equips staff to recognize cardiac arrest signs and use the AED machines effectively. The Active Heart Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of heart disease and stroke, and promoting healthy lifestyles. Similar training was also provided to auto drivers.
During an iftar gathering, there was a discussion aimed at raising awareness about the significance of maintaining cardiac health among Muslim individuals who are dealing with heart conditions and wish to observe fasting during Ramadan. The speaker stressed the crucial step of consulting with a healthcare professional before opting to fast, alongside highlighting the vital roles of adopting a nutritious diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and refraining from smoking in preserving heart health.
